About The Dive Site

The USAT Liberty shipwreck, located in Tulamben Bay, Bali, has a fascinating history that adds to its allure as a premier diving destination. Originally built in 1918, the Liberty was a cargo ship of the United States Army during World War II. In 1942, while transporting war materials, it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine near Lombok Strait.

The ship was beached at Tulamben for repairs, but in 1963, following the eruption of Mount Agung, the ship was displaced into deeper water, where it now rests at a depth of around 30 meters.

The site has become renowned for its accessibility and rich marine life. The wreck is covered in vibrant coral and is home to a variety of marine species, making it an underwater paradise for divers.

The combination of historical significance, the diverse ecosystem, and the ease of access—from the shore—contributes to the USAT Liberty being considered one of the world's top ten wreck dives. Divers can explore the wreck's structure, encounter schools of fish, and witness the stunning underwater flora, making it a must-visit location for diving enthusiasts.
